Search for a pattern in your time series data

Searching for a specific word (or part of a word) in a document is easy: just press CTRL-F and the matches will be displayed for you. I wanted to extend this concept to searching for patterns within time series data.

This tool lets you upload your file, draw the general shape you are looking for, and then see what sections of your data closely match what you drew. All relevant time frames will be searched; for example, if your time series data is daily, your pattern could be found in a section of 10 days or 3 months.

Step 1 Start by using the provided sample file with 1961-2012 World GDP growths, or upload your own CSV file.
- Your file must be comma separated and saved as .csv
- Your file must have 3 columns: the category title, date, and value. If your data only have one category, you still need to have the first column
- You must include a header row such as "Country", "Date", "GDP"
- You must have at least 10 observations for at least one category
For reference, please format your CSV just like the sample GDP file
